Greg’s Trackman Combine Challenge Day 2 | Golf Backswing Takeaway

A much better day today!

Feeling the benefit of having two days practice back to back.
I used the same feelings from yesterday but progressed with a couple of extra feelings to further improve the backswing line.

Swing feelings so far;
Taller posture with less knee flex.
Steep first part of the backswing.
Shaft lined up at the top of the backswing.
Balance point moves into the right heel.
Slight pause in transition to downswing.

The Challenge

The Challenge is simple. I need to go through one of my very own 12 week transformation programmes in a bid to beat the TrackMan Combine world record of 93.0.

Well it’s actually not quite that simple…

The Trackman Combine is a standardised test that enables you to identify the strengths and weaknesses in your golf game. The golfer is required to hit 60 shots and is given a score out of 100 based on how well he judged the carry and dispersion for each shot (in other words, how close he carried the ball to the flag). Once the golfer has completed the test, he is given an overall score again out of 100 and his score is posted on the live leaderboard at mytrackman.com

Some of the best golfers in the world have put their games to the test and the live leaderboard is a who’s who of the top golfers. The current record is help by Daniel Gavins with a phenomenal score of 93.0 points!

It Gets Tougher!

If the challenge of trying to beat the incredible feat of scoring 93.0 points wasn’t enough, I have also set myself some addition criteria.

  1. My average driver clubhead speed for the test must be at least 120 mph (currently 112 mph)
  2. I must be able to produce a swing with perfect form matching the criteria which we use here at Greg Smith Golf Coaching.

It’s going to be tough but I’m up for the challenge.

The Process

The process of the challenge will be this.

I will first put myself through a 12 week coaching programme working on building my ideal model swing and increasing my clubhead speed to 120 mph average. If I have enough time left over which is probably doubtful, I will use it to optimise my numbers and gain control over my carry distance.

When the 12 weeks are over, I will then start going through the combine challenge to try and beat the score. I have until the end of September to break the record and after that, the challenge will be over.

It’s going to be fun.
